The KJV versus The NIV
Dr. Bryan Gentry
One of the best ways to understand the works of men is to see just what they say about their own efforts. There is quite a difference between what the King James Version translators say about their completed translation and what the New International Version translators say of theirs. In their Epistle Dedicatory, the KJV translators refer to their finished work as “one more exact translation of the Holy Scriptures.” They produced a translation they all considered to be an “exact translation!”
In the preface of the NIV, the translation committee refers to their work as a translation that
“undoubtedly falls short of its goals.” If this is how they felt about it, why did they not achieve their goals before they published it? The NIV translators were at least honest about their translation falling short. This author believes their goal was not to provide an accurate or even Christ-honoring translation, but to eventually remove or change every reference to the Deity of Christ, the Virgin Birth, His miracles, His bodily resurrection, etc. They desire to bring the Lord Jesus down from His well-deserved exalted position as God to the place where He receives no more consideration than a mere man.
Public demand would not have allowed them to do this all at once, but they continue to modify their translation every few years removing and changing more of these verses until they will have the perfect translation for the One World Religion. It will truly be the New International Version.
One of the most wicked corruptions in the modern translations is found when we compare Isaiah 14:12 in the NIV with the same verse in the KJV. This passage in the KJV is the only place in all of Scripture that uses the name Lucifer to identify Satan.
Is. 14:12 (KJV) - “How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!”
According to this passage in the King James Version, Lucifer (better known as Satan) is the one who fell from Heaven and was cast down. The NIV says something entirely different.
Is. 14:12 (NIV) - “How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations!”
Do you see that? Both the KJV and the NIV state in Revelation 22:16 that Jesus is the 'Morning Star.'
Rev. 22:16 in the NIV states, "I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.”
Rev. 22:16 in the KJV says, “I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.”
Since 'Morning Star' is a name that Jesus reserves for Himself, when the NIV removes the name of Lucifer and calls the one who fell 'morning star' they are really stating that Jesus fell from Heaven, not Lucifer. To state that Jesus fell or was cast down clearly reveals who these individuals serve. The Lord Jesus did not fall and was never cast down. He is God and will be the One who does the casting! This shows just how low these scoundrels will stoop to serve their sinister master. This is an intentional attack by these anti-Christian modernists against the One they hate the most, the Virgin Born, God-Incarnate, Creator, the Lord Jesus.
He is the One they will stand before and give an account of their evil deeds. When they face him, they will have plenty of time to regret their foolish decision to attack the Only One who could prevent their eternal punishment in the flames.
The title of this article may sound like an attack on the Lord, but it is not. However, there are many who call themselves 'Christians' who do not believe the Lord Jesus is the 'Good Shepherd.' There are two points about the Lord calling Himself the 'Good Shepherd' in John 10 that I would like to address. The first point is the fact that it reveals His deity. In Mark 10:17 a man calls Jesus, "Good Master.” The way the man addressed the Lord may not seem significant to us, but Jesus was going teach a lesson through this. Jesus told the man in verse 18, “Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.” The lesson here is found in the comparison between the Lord's statement to this rich, young ruler and the fact that Jesus calls Himself the 'Good Shepherd.' You see, if there is none good but God, then Jesus is in reality calling Himself God when He says that He is the 'Good Shepherd.' This cannot be twisted or changed because both statements come directly from the lips of the Lord Himself. Those who do not believe that Jesus is God cannot believe that He is the 'Good Shepherd!' “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.” Romans 3:10-12
The Bible is clear that no human can ever be good! IF JESUS IS NOT GOD, THEN HE CANNOT BE 'THE GOOD SHEPHERD!' The second lesson found when the Lord calls Himself 'the Good Shepherd' is that when one is truly saved, that person CANNOT GO TO HELL! The objective of the shepherd is to provide for and keep his sheep. The shepherd leads his flock where they can be provided for and protected. The shepherd leads that flock into a safe, walled pasture and lays across the only opening. The shepherd truly is the 'door.' No sheep can enter without coming through the shepherd and they cannot go out with out him allowing them to leave. Also no other creature except the sheep of that particular shepherd can get in because “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” (John 10:27). That is exactly what the Lord Jesus means when He calls Himself 'The Good Shepherd!'
A good shepherd is responsible for feeding, watering, leading, protecting and keeping His sheep. A human shepherd may do his best to take care of his sheep, but his abilities are limited and he may occasionally lose a sheep to a bear or a wolf, or even falling off of a cliff. However, the 'Good Shepherd' has no such limitations. He is all-powerful and will never allow anything or anyone to steal one of His sheep. A human shepherd may have a sheep that wanders away from the fold, but the 'Good Shepherd' will never let that happen because He only allows His sheep to come in, never go out. Those who say that one of the Lord's sheep can go to hell are saying that Jesus is not the 'Good Shepherd' and they are calling Him a liar. These people just do not know how great a 'Shepherd' my Jesus is!

Many Bibles omit entire verses from them. For instance, they skip from Acts 8:36 and go to verse 38, leaving out verse 37 altogether or put it in a footnote at the bottom of the page causing the reader to doubt whether the verse should be included or not.
One of the most important decisions in the life of a church is that of selecting a pastor. Many good churches have been hijacked by unscrupulous individuals posing as a man of God. Obviously, the only foolproof way to find the right man is to make sure you are in touch with the Lord. In this article, we are going to look at some of the practical ways to screen candidates and minimize the time spent searching for a pastor or any other staff position for your church. I have been on both sides of this process, on a committee to search for a pastor, as well as being the candidate for pastor. Through these experiences I have found some lessons that may be helpful for churches going through this important process.
This may seem like a silly question, yet there are many who do not understand the purpose of a committee. If the committee is elected by the church, then they are to represent the church body and their interests. If the committee is assigned by the pastor (this happens sometimes when a pastor retires because of health), then they are to follow the wishes of the pastor. Unfortunately, I know of committees that, once they were formed, they forgot what they were assigned to do and began to serve their own agenda. A committee is called to only stay on task and do only that job they were assigned. The committee has no authority except that granted to it.
Do not make any decision without praying over it. Remember, this is the Lord’s Church, so let Him call the pastor He wants. You follow His lead. Many churches have grown closer to the Lord and to each other during the time they are without a pastor. Become very familiar with and put into practice the principles in these verses – Matthew 6:33; 7:7; Luke 4:1; John 10:27; Hebrews 11:6; Revelation 3:7-8.
There is a tendency to get a pastor as quickly as you can, but this has ruined many a church. When we get in a hurry, we become careless and often make mistakes. The importance of finding the right man for God’s church cannot be overstated. Do not drag your feet, but take whatever time is necessary to find God’s man.
The first item of business for a search committee should that of finding preachers to supply the pulpit until you call an interim pastor. You may have men in your church that can supply the pulpit full time or from time to time. If not, you may be able to work out a system of supply preachers with a Bible college or a large church in the area that believes the way you do until you call an interim. This needs to be done so the normal services go on uninterrupted.
The next item of business is to call an interim pastor. It is helpful if this man is familiar with the needs of the church, but this is not always possible. If a man like this is not available, you may feel secure in calling one of the supply preachers to be your interim. You need a good interim that knows and preaches the Word of God, and believes what you believe. He can help the church through this time and this allows the committee to focus on the task at hand, finding God’s man. The interim pastor should only be called to preach and teach. The interim may be able to give advice in areas of the church that will be helpful, but the rest of the church should step up and take care of the business of the church. Be sure you screen the interim before calling him. You should not call an interim that is one of your candidates for pastor. This may give the church the idea that the committee had to settle for less. This also gives this man an unfair advantage. Also, remember to pray, pray, pray!
There will be a tendency for some church members to learn more than you are willing to share regarding the findings of the committee, so they may try to work one committee member against another. The committee must be one body, not sharing anything that the committee as a whole has not agreed to share with the church. It is also wise not to tell your spouses any more than you are telling the church. When making announcements to the church, let the chairman make them all.
Be thorough with your background check of each candidate. There is a fee for criminal searches, as well as financial background checks, but this money is well spent if it keeps you from calling a shyster.
Note: This should also be done for every member of the church staff and anyone who works with children to prevent possible legal problems.
A release form to allow the Church to do background checks can be acquired from local law enforcement offices. Candidates who are unwilling to submit to these checks should be removed from your list.
The church will become anxious and rumors may start if you do not keep them informed. I do not, however, believe this should be done weekly. This tends to cause the church to become too anxious. It will not hurt the church to go 2-4 weeks without being updated. They need to learn to trust their committee.
When you select a candidate, deal with only one at a time. If you work with two or three at a time, a vote between them may cause some church members to feel alienated because the man they voted for did not win. A church can be split over this because the process becomes a competition and every competition has losers. The committee should agree on an order and work with only one candidate at a time. Either recommend him and have him in to candidate, put him in the 'maybe file' or reject him. When you have selected a man to present to the church, the committee should meet with him and his wife before making the announcement.
You will receive names from church members of candidates of family members, friends and soon. Ask that man for a resume, but do not feel you have to tell people why you do not think this candidate is right for your church. The best answer is “We did not feel the Lord leading that direction.” This will be the truth if you are following the Lord’s lead.
Create a candidate packet which should include:
Ask each candidate for the following:
*Note: If the candidate does not send an item that you requested, question him about it. This should be the first area of focus if you begin seriously looking to call this individual. He may be trying to hide something or it may have been an oversight. Either way, you must be suspicious of every discrepancy. This is by no means a complete list, however, it gives a basic idea of the process and things a church should look for. It may also help prevent possible problems. Of all the steps, the constant attitude of prayer on the part of the committee and the church is invaluable.
I was faced with this question at the end of one of our preaching services at a nearby juvenile facility. We had been holding services there for more than a year when Ray (not his real name), a distraught young man, came up to me after the service. He received Christ at one of the first services he attended and was very faithful since that time.
The juvenile inmates are given a minimum nine month sentence to complete, however, if they got into trouble during that time they would have to stay longer. Some of the young men there had successfully stretched their nine months into two years or more. Ray was not one of the troublemakers, but was on schedule to get out in the minimum time.
On this particular day he patiently waited until the service was over and came up to me and said, “Brother Gentry, I have got to talk to you! I don't know what's going on!” After everyone else left, he and I sat down and began talking. I first asked him what the problem was. He reminded me that he got saved at one of our services about eight months ago and had been a model inmate since that time. He had not been written up for anything and had recently received his release date to get out in a month. He said that his mom was really sick and needed him home as soon as possible.
Then he said, “I don't know what has come over me this past week, but all of a sudden I started cussing people out.” He said he cussed the other youth out, the staff and even cussed out his case manager. For those who do not know what the case manager does, their job is to make recommendations to the judge regarding when an inmate is ready to be released.
I then began to evaluate what would lead to such a drastic behavior change. I asked him what kind of music he was listening to. I know that the wrong kind of music will cause some people to lose control. The devil has all kinds of snares waiting for the unsuspecting. He then told me that he did not listen to any music. So I asked him what he spent his spare time doing and he said, “Reading.” Then I asked what he had been reading and he said, “Harry Potter.”
I told him, “That's your problem! Those books teach people how to cast spells and call demons into themselves. Even though you are saved, you cannot expect to play with the devil's fire and not get burned.” He then asked, “What can I do? My Mom needs me home and now they are going to keep me another three or four months at least.”
I told him, “You are going to throw Harry Potter away and get back to reading your Bible, you are going to sincerely apologize to everyone you cussed out, and then we are going to pray and see what God will do.” He told me it was too late! I got a bit indignant because he seemed to think he had a problem that even God could not get him out of. I told him not to underestimate what God can do. We prayed right then and asked God to show Himself mighty in Ray's situation and for his mom's sake.
The next time I saw Ray I asked him if he had done what I told him to do. He assured me that he had. He was faithful to services for the next three weeks, but then I noticed that he was not there. I asked one of the other boys where he was. He responded, “You mean, you didn't hear? Ray went home!” It turned out that his case manager lost his paperwork. Ray did not even finish his full nine months! Praise God!!! I am convinced that we do not see God answer many prayers because we do not believe He will. What are you asking God to do for you? Do you really believe He will?
Will You Go To Heaven? Most people believe they are going to heaven because they believe in God, they attend mass or church services, or they try to live a good life. But these people only hope that they will make it to heaven, they do not know. The Bible teaches that you can know that you have eternal life.
"These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God."
But how can someone know if they have been good enough to get to heaven? The answer is that your eternal destiny has nothing to do with how good you are. In fact, the Bible teaches that no one is good enough to get to heaven.
"As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:"
Righteousness is defined as, "God's standard of perfection." According to the Bible, no man meets this standard.
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;"
Any disobedience toward God is sin. Whether you admit it or not, you know that you have sinned.
For instance, have you ever told a lie?
Then you have sinned.
As a child, were you ever disobedient to your parents?
Then you have sinned.
It does not matter how good you are compared to your siblings, your friends, or other people. Since you are a sinner, you do not measure up to God's standard of perfection and are unworthy of heaven. In fact, your sinful nature will be judged by God.
The Bible says that Christ will be revealed from heaven with his angels:
"In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;"
This judgment is the payment which you owe for your sin:
"For the wages of sin is death ..."
We all know that wages are something we earn. By our sin, we have earned death.
So you might be asking, "If everyone is a sinner, and sin is deserving of death, how does anyone get to heaven?"
I'm glad you asked that!
The second half of Romans 6:23 contains the answer to your question:
"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
This verse says that eternal life is a gift. Can you earn a gift? Do you have to do anything to get a gift?
Absolutely Not!
You see, eternal life cannot be earned, it must be accepted as a free gift.
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God : Not of works, lest any man should boast."
"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;"
"But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness."
Faith is simply believing what God has said. God, being a loving Father, wants to have a relationship with you. Since you are separated from Him by your unrighteousness, he will count your faith for righteousness so that you can have a personal relationship with Him!
"And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:"
But how did God provide for this free gift of eternal life? And if eternal life is a free gift that I can receive, how do I receive it? If God will count my faith for righteousness, what do I need to have faith in?
"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
When the Bible says that "Christ died for us," it means that Jesus Christ died in our place. We saw earlier how the payment for sin is death. Christ has already paid that payment for you.
"For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him."
Jesus Christ "knew no sin." Since he was God, he never sinned. Since he was not a sinner, he did not owe the payment for sin, death. But he chose to die to pay your debt so that you could be "justified", or declared righteous, by God.
"For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried , and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:"
Once again, these verses show that Christ did not die for his own sins, but for OUR sins. He didn't have any sin of his own to pay for, so he chose to pay for your sin. This is how God showed his love for us. He died for us so that we could have righteousness and eternal life as a free gift.
But that's not all. If He had only died, this would not have been enough. Not only did He die, but He also "rose again the third day according to the scriptures ." Christ's resurrection purchased victory over death and proved that He was truly God. It is on the basis of Christ's resurrection that God can offer you newness of life.
"Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification."
"Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life."
So how does one go about receiving this gift? The answer is very simple.
"In whom ye also trusted , after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed , ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,"
Won't you make that decision to trust him right now?
If you have made that decision, you may want to pray to God to thank him for the gift of eternal life that he has provided for you. But remember that you are saved by trusting in the gospel, not by saying a prayer. God is concerned with the condition of your heart, not some words that you recite. If you want to thank God for this gift, but aren't really sure how to pray to him, you can use the following as a guide.
LORD,
I know that I am a sinner.
I know that, as a sinner, I deserve death.
And I know that I cannot earn eternal life or work my way to heaven.
But I believe that You died for my sins on the cross and paid my debt so that I can have eternal life as a free gift.
I believe that you rose from the dead for my justification.
I have decided to trust in you as my Savior and receive that gift.
Thank you for dying for me and for your free gift of eternal life.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
If you have placed your trust in the gospel, you are now eternally saved. Nothing can change that.
"For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
The Bible says that you are now sealed with the Holy Spirit and are a member of the Body of Christ. No one, not even you, can now separate you from God's love. You can now know, based on the Word of God, that you have eternal life. And since you didn't do anything to earn eternal life, you don't have to follow any list of rules and regulations to keep eternal life.
Let me repeat the question I asked you at the beginning:
Do you know where you will spend eternity?
Your answer can now be a resounding YES!
If you were to die right now and God were to ask you, "Why should I let you into my heaven?" you can now say with confidence, based on the authority of the Word of God, "Because Christ died for my sins!"
If you have accepted Jesus as your Savior, we want to rejoice with you! We would also like the opportunity to help you learn more about being a Christian and learning to follow Jesus. If you have trusted Jesus Christ as your Saviour please let us know by contacting us!
